Fire under control at Mirpur: thousands of houses burnt

Fire at Mirpur 12 is now under control. 23 units of fire service worked to control the fire and at around 7:20 am on Monday morning after three hours of drive brought the fire under control, said Fire Service and Civil Defense Duty Officer Mahfuz Riben.

He could not immediately tell the cause of the fire.

At the capital's Mirpur 12, there was a terrible fire in the Ilias Ali Mollah slum area at around 3:30 am on Monday.

Many local youths and locals of the area tried to bring the fire under control as well.

It became very difficult to collect water except water from the cantonment. Besides, water was being provided from the water tank of surrounding area.

Thousands of houses were burnt down.

There are seven to eight thousand houses in the slum. At least 25 thousand people live in this slum.
