Fire extinguishing work started in Sundarban

A terrible fire that broke out in an area of about two kilometers of East Sundarban of Bagerhat.

On Saturday (May 4) at around 3.30 PM, the fire took place at Chadpai range of East Sundarban in Bagerhat. After receiving the information, the forest department, local residents and two units of Morrelganj and Mongla fire services of the district reached the spot but could not start the work of fire control. Fire service says, fire fighting machines and equipments could not reach the spot. Apart from this, the distance of water from the fire place is about two kilometers.

Mohammad Kaymuzzaman, station officer of Mongla fire station, said that fire extinguishing work will be started on Sunday morning.

The fire service has started work to control the fire. They reached the spot on Sunday morning and started extinguishing the fire. However, the fire service could not say how much time it will take to control the fire.

On Sunday, from 9 AM, along with forest guard and fire service, navy, coast guard and a helicoptor of air force joined the work.

In the beginning, a fire fighting team of 10 members under the leadership of Lt. Commander Arfatul Arefin from navy, started to put out the fire. Then the fire service members connected the pipe to raise the water from nearby Bhola river. However, due to lack of tide in the river, there is a delay in water supply.

But the fire is burning slowly. Although the dry leaves are scattered, there is no fear about it.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department has formed a three-member investigation committee to determine about know the cause of fire, the extent of the fire and the damage for it. Assistant conservator of forests, Chandpai Range, Rana Dev has been selected for the head of the committee. The inquiry committee has been asked to submit it's report within the next seven working days.
