Pope Francis arrived in Dhaka

The top leader of Catholic Christian community and head of state of Vatican Pope Francis has arrived in Dhaka on a three day state visit.

A special flight carrying Pope landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal (Rh.) International Airport at 2:55 pm on Thursday.

President Mohammad Abdul Hamid welcomed him.

Later, Pope Francis was awarded red carpet reception and guard of honor at the airport.

He went direct to the national memorial monument at Savar. There he paid tribute to the immortal martyrs of the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Later, Pope will pay homage to father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after arriving at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum. He will also sign in the memorial book there.

Pope will meet President Abdul Hamid on the first day of his visit. He will also hold meeting with state’s high authority, civil society and diplomats at the Bangabhaban. He will deliver speech there.

On his second day of visit Pope will deliver speech at the Christian religious prayer and priest initiation program at Suhrawardy Uddyan at 10 am on Friday. He will also meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the same day.

He will visit the cathedral in the afternoon and a special meeting will be held with Bishops of Bangladesh at the old priest house in Ramna in the capital. Pope will deliver speech there. Later he will take part in a speech at the field of Arch Bishop House for inter religious peace.

On the last day of his visit Pope Francis will pay a personal visit at Mother Teresa Bhaban in Tejgaon on Saturday morning. Later he will deliver speech to the gathering of priests, brother-sisters, seminarians and new comers at the Tejgaon church. He will also visit the old church in Tejgaon.

In the afternoon he will deliver speech to a gathering of youths at the Notre Dame College. Pope will leave Dhaka towards Rome at 5 pm on Saturday.
