All local channels under Bangabandhu satellite coverage by May 12: Info Minister

Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, all the television channels of Bangladesh will begin their broadcasting activities through Bangabandhu Satellite-1 by May 12.

He delivered the information to the newsmen after holding meeting with the members of private television owners’ organization- Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) at the secretariat on Monday.

The Information Minister said, on May 12 one year anniversary of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will be observed. By May 12 all the television channels of the country will be under coverage of Bangabandhu Satellite.

He said, the satellite authority will provide three months service free of cost. Till May 12 Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company will shift all TV’s data to Sajeeb Wazed Joy Ground Station in Gazipur through optical fiber. In this regard Bangabandhu Satellite Company will take necessary measures.

The Minister also informed that Bangabandhu Satellite authority will fix the rate of use after discussion with the television channels and Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company through BTV will supply adequate Low Noise Block (LNB) machines to the cable operators.

Hasan Mahmud said, according to Bangladesh laws showing local advertisement through foreign channels is a punishable crime. In this regard we will issue notice. We will take action according to the law if anybody violates the rules after April 1.
