Ariful Haque Chowdhury reelected as Sylhet city father

BNP nominated mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury with the symbol sheaf of paddy was elected for second time as the city father of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC). Beating the Awami League candidate Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran with symbol of boat by 6 thousand 201 votes he was elected as the city father unofficially.

Sylhet Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer of SCC election Alimuzzaman declared Ariful Haque Chowdhury as the Mayor of SCC unofficially after completion of vote counting in the two suspended centers.

Earlier on Saturday voting took place in a peaceful manner in two suspended centers- Gazi Borhan Uddin Gorom Dewani Government Primary School under ward number 24 and Habinandi Government Primary School under ward number 27.

In Gazi Borhan Uddin Gorom Dewani Primary School center the total number of voters was 2221. Of those 1312 votes were casted. Ariful Haque got 1049 votes and Kamran got 173 votes. In Habinandi Government Primary School center Ariful Haque got 1053 votes and Kamran got 354 votes.

Of the total 134 centers under SCC the Election Commission suspended voting in these two centers.
