Gambling banned at 13 clubs in country including Dhaka Club

The High Court has banned gambling at the clubs throughout the country including capital Dhaka. Besides the court has ordered to amend the law in this regard to ban gambling and making those time befitting. The court also issued rule asking why not directions would be given to ban illegal indoor games and other games that are played in exchange of money.

The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Md. Mahmud Hasan Talukder delivered the verdict on Monday. Besides, order has been given to law enforcement agencies to confiscate the materials and instruments used for gambling.

It is known that on December 4, 2016 the court issued rule against 13 clubs throughout the country including Dhaka Club in the capital to stop gambling in exchange of money. The other clubs including- Gulshan Club, Banani Club, Officers Club Dhaka, Dhaka Ladies Club, Cadet College Club Gulshan, Chittagong Club, Chittagong Seniors Club, Narayanganj Club and Khulna Club.

On behalf of the writ petitioner lawyer Barrister Redowan Ahmed said, gambling is punishable crime according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1976, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1978 and Public Gambling Act 1867.
