Six officers stationed at the Air Traffic Control Tower of Tribhuvan International Airport who witnessed the US Bangla air crash have been shifted to another department to ‘minimize shock of the accident’.

On Monday, the plane, en route to Kathmandu from Dhaka skidded off the runway to kill 49 people so far. Remaining 22 are undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Medical College Hospital, Norvic Hospital and Om Hospital.

‘This is a standard procedure to release stress after fateful incident. They witnessed a huge disaster and they are shocked. Hence, we’ve transferred them to other departments to reduce their post-crash stress,” Rajan Pokharel, Deputy Director General of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority said.

Pokharel clarified that the transfer was not due to the leak of audio talk between Air Traffic Control and the pilot before the impact.
