On Wednesday (May 22) Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry welcomed Norway, Ireland and Spain's decision to recognize the state of Palestine. The ministry described the move as positive and urged other countries to follow.

The expected decisions of Norway, Ireland and Spain will officially take effect on Tuesday, May 28.

In a statement posted on the social media platform, Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry welcomed the positive decision of "the Kingdom of Norway, the Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Ireland" to recognize the state of Palestine.

Saudi Arabia praised the decision issued by friendly countries, which will establish the Palestinian right to freedom internationally. At the same time, Saudi Arabia called on other countries to take such steps.

About 140 countries have already recognized the State of Palestine, which is more than two-thirds of the members of the United Nations. But no major Western power has yet recognized Palestine.
The Foreign Ministry has called on the permanent members of the UN Security Council who have not recognized a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, to accept it in order to achieve a comprehensive and peace of East Jerusalem as its capital.
