Titu to become first MCC Mayor without contest

Awami League’s Ekramul Haque Titu is going to become the first Mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) without contest.

On Tuesday at a press conference his lone competitor Jatiya Party’s candidate Jahangir Ahmed declared withdrawal of his candidature from the election.

According to the Returning Officer office source, there were five mayoral candidates for MCC election. Of them nomination of three were cancelled during scrutinize on April 10.

After that Jahangir Ahmed was the only competitor of Titu. Jahangir declared about withdrawal of his nomination at Jatiya Party’s workers meeting at Mymensing city on Tuesday. So there is no competitor of Titu in the election.

At that time Jahangir said, the nomination was withdrawn following party decision. Besides, he extended support for Awami League candidate Ekramul Haque Titu.

The voting of MCC election will take place on May 5. If Titu is elected mayor without contest then elections will be held for councilor posts.
