Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said they would ensure that none can burn the people to death alive in future by giving exemplary punishment to the arsonists and the masterminds behind the heinous acts.

"We are taking required measures against the arsonists and their masters so that none can burn the people to death and such heinous acts," she said.

The premier made the remarks while speaking at a post-election greeting and view exchange meeting with leaders and activists of Kotalipara AL and associate bodies in Kotalipara Upazila Chattar here.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's younger daughter and prime minister's younger sister Sheikh Rehana was present.

Sheikh Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League (AL), said many persons involved in the arson violence and their masters have already been brought to book while the remaining others must be netted after scrutinizing the video footages of the CCTV cameras which are now available everywhere.

"None of those who have done such heinous acts will be spared. We are currently taking measures against them and will continue the legal actions against others," she said.

The Prime Minister came down heavily on the BNP-Jamaat clique for their activities for what they call democracy, saying, "Their movement means burning people to death alive and torching vehicles, including buses and trains."

She said they did the same thing this time in the name of movement to prevent the 12th parliamentary election what they had done in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

After forming the government for the record fifth term and fourth in a row, the Prime Minister went to Gopalganj to visit her Tungipara-Kotalipara constituency to pay homage to the Father of the Nation at his mausoleum in Tungipara alongside exchanging greetings and views with party leaders and activists.

She spent Saturday (Jan 13) night at her own home in Tungipara and is scheduled to reach her official Ganabhaban residence tonight.

The Awami League had won the 12th parliamentary election with landslide victory getting 222 parliamentary seats out of 298.

Over 6 lakh Muslims offer Eid prayers at Gor-E-Shaheed Maidan

Millions of devotees from different parts of the country performed the holy Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the historic Gor-E-Shaheed Eidgah Maidan in Dinajpur with enthusiasm. Fire at Hazaribagh slum under control

A massive fire broke out in Dhaka's Hazaribagh area. The fire was brought under control around one hour after the fire broke out. The fire broke out at around 11:50am today (April 12). On information, the fire service rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. Rozina Akhtar, duty officer of the fire service, confirmed the matter. Sadarghat launch capsize, accused on 3 day remand

A Dhaka court has placed five people on a three-day remand each in a case filed over the death of five passengers in a launch capsize at Sadarghat. Naqib, a sub-inspector of Sadarghat thana River Police, pleaded to place the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand each for "fair investigation" on Friday (April 12). The accused are Md Abdur Rauf Hawlader, and Md Selim Hawlader, Md Faruk Khan, Md Mizanur Rahman, and Md Moniruzzaman. On behalf of the accused, lawyers appealed for bail seeking cancellation of the remand. But the bail application was opposed by the state. Dhaka's Chief Judicial Magistrate, Arifa Chowdhury Himel, placed each of the accused on a three-day remand. Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul confirmed the information. Meanwhile, joint director of River Securty and Traffic Management, Ismail Hossain, filed the case at South Keraniganj Police Station.

At least 200 homes burnt in Chattogram’s Firingee Bazar slum

The fire that broke out at the Tekpara and Yakub Nagar slums in Firingi Bazar of Chattogram has been brought under control. The fire has burnt down nearly 200 homes. The fire service received information about the fire at around 1:20 pm on Monday (April 15). Nine units of fire service brought the fire under control after an hour's effort.
