The High Court has ordered Department of Environment to conduct mobile court drives against air polluters twice a week in the capital.

The High Court bench comprising Justice F R M Nazmul Ahsan and Justice K M Kamrul Kader delivered the order and issued rule on Monday after taking initial hearing of a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).

The rule was issued to know why not ‘inactivity’ of the administration to prevent air pollution in capital Dhaka will not be declared illegal and why not order should be given to take active steps to stop air pollution.

The writ petition was filed in the concerned department of High Court after attaching the news and reports on air pollution in Dhaka published on different news media on Sunday. Advocate Manzil Morshed stood for HRPB before the court in the hearing.

The order also said, the places in the capital where development and renovation works are going on should be surrounded within 15 days so that air pollution cannot increase by spreading dust in the dry season. Besides, the court also ordered to spray water twice a day in the dust prone areas.
