Shirin Sharmin nominated for Hasina’s Rangpur 6

Pulling out of the race from Rangpur-6 parliamentary constituency, Awami League President and also Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has finally nominated Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury to contest the 11th general election from the seat.

Hasina handed over a letter to the Speaker at her Ganabhaban residence in the presence of over 500 leaders coming from Rangpur’s Pirganj on Thursday, said Rangpur district Chhatra League president Mehedi Hasan Siddique.

Both Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Tuesday submitted their nomination papers to run the polls from Rangpur-6 (Pirganj).

Filing the nomination papers of Hasina and herself, Shirin Sharmin told reporters that party will decided who will contest the election from Rangpur-6 seat.

In the last parliamentary polls, Hasina was elected MP from Gopalganj-3 and Rangpur-6.

She later vacated Rangpur constituency and Shirin Sharmin was elected MP in the by-election to Rangpur-6.

The last date for withdrawing candidacy is December 9 while December 10 is set for allocating electoral symbol.

The 11th parliamentary election will be held on December 30.
