Ten die as cyclone Remal batters Bangladesh

At least 10 people have been reported dead in six districts as cyclone Remal batters Bangladesh.

Two of the dead died on Sunday (May 26) and eight on Monday.

Of them, three in Patuakhali, two each in Bhola and Barishal and one each in Satkhira, Chattogram and Cumilla.

According to the information sent by the correspondents, an elderly man named Shawkat Moral died on his way to the shelter in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira on Sunday evening (May 26). On the same afternoon, in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali, a man named Shariful Islam died while protecting his sister from the flooded area due to the impact of the cyclone.

In addition, two people were killed when a wall of a multi-storey building collapsed in Rupatali area of Barishal city on Monday morning. The deceased were identified as Lokman and Moksedul.

In Bhola, a woman named Moneza Khatun was killed when a tin shade house collapsed in strong winds. In the same district, a child named Maisha (4) was killed when a tree fell on her.

A pedestrian named Saiful Islam Hridoy was killed as a wall collapsed on him at Textile area of Bayezid Police Station in Chattogram city.

Three people died in Patuakhali due to the impact of cyclone Remal. In Dumki upazila of the district, an elderly man named Joynal Hawlader (70) was killed when a tree fell on him . A pedestrian named Abdul Karim (60) was killed as an office collapsed in front of the Upazila Parishad gate at Baufal in the district. A pedestrian named Abdul Karim (60) was killed.

Besides, low-lying areas of different districts of the country have been flooded. Cattle, fish and crop fields have been washed away by the tidal surge. Communication has been disrupted due to falling trees on roads in many areas.
