Deputy Minister of Canada in Dhaka

Canada's Deputy Minister of International Development Christopher MacLennan arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the information of his arrival in Dhaka on Saturday (May 25).

Samia Israt Roni, Director of North America Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed him at Dhaka Airport. Canadian High Commissioner Lily Nicholls was also present at the airport.

According to the Canadian High Commission in Dhaka, 'Christopher McLennan will meet with government officials and development partners to discuss Canada's evolving international assistance in the context of Bangladesh's progress from Least Developed Country status in 2026.'

Canadian High Commission in Dhaka also said 'The visit will create an opportunity to leverage Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy in Bangladesh.'

The deputy minister will also have discussions about the ongoing response to the Rohingya crisis and the situation at the border.

Christopher McLennan's visit is expected to create an opportunity to strengthen Canada's partnerships with some of Bangladesh's world-class private and research organizations, said the Canadian High Commission.
