Bangladesh women confirm SAFF semifinal with win against Bhutan

Total six teams are taking part in the fifth Women’s SAFF Championship. Bhutan and host Nepal are the opponents of Bangladesh in Group ‘A’. India, Sri Lanka and Maldives are in the Group ‘B’.

The Bangladesh national team went to the field against Bhutan in their first match. The followers of Golam Rabbani Chhotan left the field with their win and confirmed position for the semifinals.

The match started at Shaheed Rangashala Stadium at Biratnagar in Nepal at 3 pm on Thursday.

From the beginning of the match the Bangladesh team began to dominate. Although, both the teams could not score in the first half.

Bangladesh women team scored the desired goal at the beginning of the second half. Misrat Jahan Mousumi scored in the 47th minute and took the lead.

In the 86th minute captain Sabina Khatun scored the second and last goal of the match.

Bangladesh, runners up of the last tournament will play their match against host Nepal in the same venue on Saturday (March 16).

As in the group stage first match favorite Nepal beat Bhutan by 3-0, so Bangladesh’s win against Bhutan confirmed their position in the semifinals.

The group stage matches of the women’s tournament will be held till March 17 which started from March 12. The two semifinals will take place in the morning and afternoon on March 20. The final will be held on March 22.
