Launch capsize in Shitalakkhya: 27 dead bodies recovered
More 22 dead bodies were recovered from the launch that capsized in the river Shitalakkhya yesterday after being hit by a goods laden cargo. The launch was salvaged to the bank of the river with help of a salvage ship at 12:15 pm on Monday. Then the rescuers began to bring out the dead bodies from the salvaged launch. Total 27 dead bodies were recovered including yesterday’s five. The information was confirmed by Bandar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shulka Sarkar. On Sunday evening the launch named Sabit Al Hasan carrying more than 50 passengers capsized in the Shitalakkhya river in Narayanganj after being hit by a goods laden cargo. Then five dead bodies were recovered in the night. With 22 more dead bodies recovered today the death toll reached at 27. The joint rescue operation is being conducted by BIWTA, Coast Guard, Fire Service and River police. Two separate investigation committees have been formed by Narayanganj district administration and BIWTA. Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mostain Billah said on Sunday midnight that five dead bodies of women were recovered. Taka 25 thousand will be provided to the family members of each deceased. In this connection an investigation committee comprising seven members headed by Additional District Magistrate Tahera Khanam Bobby has been formed. The committee was asked to submit the report within five working days. On the other hand Public Relations Officer of shipping ministry Jahangir Alam Khan said, a four-member probe committee headed by BIWTA Director Md. Rafiqul Islam was formed to find out cause of the accident. AH

30 to 35 Bangladeshis killed in Mediterranean boat capsize: FM
Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen said, it is feared that 30 to 35 Bangladeshis were killed in the boat capsize incident in Tunisia coast on Mediterranean Sea while the migrants were going from Libya to Italy. He said these while discussing the matter with the newsmen at foreign ministry on Sunday. The Foreign Minister said, the government has no confirmed information about how many people were killed in the boat capsize incident carrying the migrants. But according to international media report, of the 60 deceased most of the people were Bangladeshi. He said, local fishermen rescued 14 Bangladeshis. There is no confirmed information about how many people are Bangladeshis from the missing. As 37 people are missing from the 51 Bangladeshis, so we can think that they died. Quoting the Red Crescent different international media reports said, a boat carrying the migrants capsized on Thursday night near Tunisia coast on Mediterranean Sea. In this incident 60 people were killed and most of them were Bangladeshi. News Agency AFP said, 16 people were rescued by the Tunisian fishermen. Of them 14 are Bangladeshis including one child. A K Abdul Momen said, after being informed the matter an officer of the embassy there went to the spot. Efforts are going on to rescue the missing. Besides there are attempts to bring back the people who were rescued. He said, according to the message sent by Bangladesh Ambassador in Libya on Saturday, there were 51 Bangladeshis on that boat.
