After filing case over the allegation of cheating against music director J K Majlish, his associate Jewel D Costa and owner of Gaanbox Music, the trio have gone into hiding in fear of getting arrested by police under Digital Security Act. The case was filed with Motijheel police station by Rtv authority (Case no. 28, 15/09/2022).

‘Folk Station’ a program of Bengal Media Corporation (Rtv) has been broadcasted to uphold the lost country music before the mass people. After going into airing the program earned immense popularity so that four seasons were made one by one. J K Majlish, known as a music director and composer was assigned to rearrange the songs along with other composers which were broadcasted in the Folk Station reality show. But over the allegation of cheating about the copyright of the songs the Rtv authority has sued Majlish and his two associates under Digital Security Act.

After filing the case five days have been gone but police yet to arrest them. It was observed that after getting the information of filing case the trio have gone into hiding.

According to the information of the case, J K Majlish has been publishing the songs numbering about two hundred and fifty on You Tube claiming rights naming after him which earlier he rearranged for Folk Station program aired by Rtv three years back.

Moreover, J K Majlish is broadcasting those songs naming after him on foreign online platform though he worked for Rtv on a contract basis. A local firm named ‘Gaan Box’ is associating the process. That firm is working on collecting songs from the musicians and composers to broadcast those on foreign online platform.

Over the issue Bengal Media Corporation (Rtv) arranged conversation with J K Majlish several times. He was tried to persuade that he rearranged the music on Work for Hire basis. He was also served legal notice in this regard. As they did not follow the process the Rtv authority filed the case against the trio including J K Majlish. Police are in quest of the persons after filing the case.

In their process of investigation police have unearthed that the address Gaanbox was using is fake. There is no existence of Gaanbox at Motijheel Aziz Bhaban, the address they provided. They were there about two to three years back to perform some initial activities. Being unable to provide rent they fled from the address. Even the owner of the previous establishment filed a General Diary against the Gaanbox authority.

Mentionable that the online platforms where J K Majlish used to broadcast those songs are: Spotify, Apple Music, Prime Music, Geo Seven, Dazer, You Tube Music, Star I Tune and others platform. The issue of copyright was first highlighted by a firm (MCN) named Fuga. That firm claimed copyright of more than two hundred songs from Rtv You Tube Channel. It also claimed that the songs which were broadcasted in the ‘Folk Station’ program were tuned and copyrighted by J K Majlish, which is not true.
