Prices of commodities to rise under proposed budget

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has proposed for imposing excess duty on some commodities in the Jatiya Sangsad. In this way prices of biri-cigarettes, oil and other commodities may rise.

According to the proposal of the Finance Minister, 5 per cent extra duty is imposed on ice cream. Proposal was made to increase duty from 5 per cent to 10 per cent for mobile phone SIM and RIM cards.

The Finance Minister proposed for imposing duty on astrology and match making at the local level and for imposing VAT at importing level in telecom sector.

Besides, prices of cigarettes, biri, jarda and other tobacco materials, mobile call charge, LP gas, imported powder milk, powder spices, tomato ketchup, fruit juice, toilet tissue, tube light, spectacles frame, CR coil, GI wire, screw, blade, transformers, sunglasses, reading glass, imported particle board, all types of imported tyres and smart phones are going to be increased.

Proposal was made to impose VAT at import level on plastic and aluminum crockery items, soya bean oil, palm oil, sunflower oil and mustard oil.

Expense will increase in gold and silver ornaments, English medium school, launch air conditioned cabin, broadband internet, indenting, furniture, transport contractor and information technology based services.
