Fresh 5 lakh 20 thousand people have fallen into the grip of poverty as the prices of rice increased abnormally in Bangladesh in the recent days. Private research organization South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) said this.

The organization said, for this the poverty rate has increased 0.32 percent.

SANEM upheld their quarterly review in a program on Saturday. It is a forum of economists and researchers of South Asia.

The organization upheld the information of the current economic condition in a press conference at BRAC Center in the capital.

SANEM’s review report said, the quantity of rice that was imported in the first three months of the current fiscal year is nearly five times higher than the total import of last fiscal year.

The organization also proposed to formulate an effective rice policy for ensuring proper production, import and supply of rice in future. In a recommendation it said, Bangladesh needs to sign strategic agreement with rice exporting countries.

In the report it expressed concern over scandal in banking sector and increasing of default loan.

Researchers also expressed concern over investment. They said, at present the government investment has increased but private investment is not increasing in line of that.
