The mobile court conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has awarded one year imprisonment to Dhaka-7 Member of Parliament Haji Selim’s son and ward councilor Erfan Selim along with his body guard Mohammad Zahid.
RAB legal and media wing Director Lt. Colonel Ashik Billah confirmed the information at a press conference on Monday evening.
Ashik Billah said, they were awarded the punishment for taking liquor and using illegal walky-talkies. Besides, two more cases will be filed against them under arms and narcotics act.
Earlier, a team of RAB from 12 pm began their search at the house of Haji Selim named ‘Chand Sardar Dadar Bari’ to arrest Erfan Selim.
During the drive led by RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam huge quantity of liquor and beer, walky-talkies, electronics devices and arms were recovered.
At that time Sarwar Alam said, Erfan Selim resided on the second and third floor of the house. From there a foreign made pistol, bullets, one air gun, 38 walky-talkies, one handcuff, huge quantity of foreign liquor and beer were recovered.
He also said that the arms has no license and the walky-talkies are illegal which usually the law enforcing agencies use.
Mentionable, yesterday a video went viral on social media where it was seen that a navy official was under attack. Aftermath the law enforcing agency members went for the operation.
The navy official named Wasif Ahmed filed written complaint with Dhanmondi police station stating that he and his wife were going on a motorcycle. At one stage the vehicle of MP Selim pushed their motorcycle. He then stopped the bike and tried to talk to the people inside the vehicle. At that time two to three people including Zahid and Abu Bakkar severely beat him and broke his teeth. They also threatened to abduct and kill him and his wife. Later police came and seized the vehicle and motorcycle and took those to Dhanmondi police station.
