Subarnachar rape incident; housewife commits suicide

An allegation came in that a rape victim named Poly Akter (22) from Mohammadpur union under Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali district committed suicide after taking poison.

The incident happened at Char Maksumpur village on Saturday morning. The housewife was brought to Noakhali sadar hospital but the on duty physician declared her dead.

According to the family sources of the housewife, on Friday night one culprit named Alauddin raped Poly after found her alone in the home. At one stage Poly’s husband witnessed the incident when Poly cried out.

Local people then detained Alauddin. On that night the local influential people including Nuru Member mediated the matter, fined the rapist 60 thousand taka and freed the rapist.

On Saturday morning the victim committed suicide after taking poison. She was rushed to the Noakhali sadar hospital but the on duty physician declared her dead.

Family members of the deceased alleged, the local by-election for chairman post was held on February 24. In that election husband of the victim housewife worked for independent candidate Mahiuddin Chowdhury with pineapple symbol. Following the incident, to take revenge Awami League nominated candidate Abul Kalam Azad’s supporter Alauddin committed the crime.

Father in law of the victim Nur Karim told Rtv online that he wanted exemplary punishment for the criminals who committed the crime and forced the housewife to commit suicide.

Resident Medical Officer of Noakhali 250-bed hospital Syed Mahiuddin Abdul Azim told Rtv online, dead body of Poly Akter was brought to the hospital. Her body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Officer in Charge of Char Jabbar police station Md. Sahed Uddin told Rtv online, after being informed police visited the spot. Legal action will be taken after investigation.
