1100 sacks expired baby foods seized; 4 get jail

RAB mobile court has awarded two years imprisonment each to four businessmen over allegation of marketing expired baby foods by filling those in new packets at Shashanghat under Lalbag fort bazaar area in the capital on Sunday.

Executive Magistrate of the mobile court Sarwar Alam delivered the verdict while conducting the drive from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.

During the drive, proprietors of Siam Enterprise Mir Hossain and Saiful Islam, proprietor of Ratan Traders Mohammad Ratan and proprietor of Humayun Enterprise Imam Hossain Sumon were awarded two years imprisonment. The shops and warehouses were sealed and 1100 sacks of expired baby foods were seized from there.

Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam said, it is a matter of sorrow that the businessmen do such things for benefit and greed. We have found children’s favorite foods such as chips, noodles, milk power which expired in 2016. The businessmen are marketing those after repacking.

This type of drive will continue, the magistrate said.

RAB-10 took part in the drive and BSTI assisted the team.
