23 Female Domestic Workers Tortured in Saudi Arabia Return Home

23 female domestic workers tortured in Saudi Arabia returned home. They came to Dhaka from Saudi Arabia via the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment at 4:30 pm on Monday.

The women returning home went to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic worker. Being tortured in various ways they communicated with Bangladesh Embassy. Later, they were brought back to the country through the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.

They were sent to their own houses from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The women returning home complain that they were not given foods, were paid less salary and were beaten.

A woman who came back said, 'I asked Madam, why she tortures me so much. I understand the language and work day and night. You just give me two hours to sleep. Then why do you beat?'

Another abused woman said, 'they always beat me and did not let me eat enough food. They did not torture more than this. I was hidden beside the house. A woman took me from there. I worked for a month in her house. Then my spinal problem arose. Now I cannot work anymore.'

Another woman said, "One thousand tk. (Saudi Riyal) was written on my Visa, but I was paid eight hundred tk. (Saudi Riyal). I did not even get all the money.'
