Election Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam exchanging views with officials.

Election Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam said that army will not be deployed in Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election.

He said this after holding a view exchange meeting with election officials in Chattogram on Friday.

Rafiqul Islam said, we have not deployed army in the local government elections and will not deploy in this time. But army will present wearing uniforms without arms. They will provide technical support.

Yesterday BNP mayoral candidate Shahadat Hossain demanded deferment of the election for two days as well as to deploy army after submitting his nomination papers.

When asked about to comment on this Rafiqul Islam said, election cannot be deferred due to some reasons including public examinations. The commission is considering the matter whether the election can be hold by not declaring a public holiday.

He also said, we had an option to hold the election in the rainy season. But we cannot imagine the matter of holding election in Chattogram city in the rainy season.
