No one will be homeless in the country: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, nobody will be homeless in Bangladesh. Nobody will live in hut. We will build homes with iron sheet at least for everybody.

She said these at a public gathering in Khulna circuit house ground organized by Awami League on Saturday.

After inaugurating and laying foundation of nearly one hundred projects she said, the government is working on for the development of Khulna. We have established fire service station in every upazila. We have provided whatever is needed throughout the country including books and medical services for free.

The Prime Minister said, we have granted ‘One house-One farm’ project. With this people now can manage their own businesses.

She said, Bangladesh is the role model for development in the world. Our growth was 7.28 percent in last year. Poverty rate has come down to 22 percent. Foreign currency reserve is over 33 billion dollars. Per capita income stands at one thousand 610 US dollars. We have achieved great development in every sector.

Sheikh Hasina said, we are turning into developing country from the status of least developed country in the month of independence.

Urging people to vote for Awami League for maintaining the trend of development she said, we want to take the country towards progress.

The premier said, as a winning nation Bangladesh has raised its head before the world. We are working on to initiate rail service from Padma bridge to Mongla through Jessore, Khulna and Bagerhat.

She said, Khaleda Zia committed corruption, she is in jail following court verdict and we have nothing to do in this regard.

Upholding development in power sector she said, coal based power plant, atomic power plant and hydro power plant with joint venture with Bhutan and Nepal will be constructed. Inter grid network will be set up with India. Through this regional energy security belt will be created.

The Prime Minister said, we are importing 500 megawatt electricity from India. It will be raised to one thousand megawatt by phases. We are also planning to import hydro electricity from Nepal and Bhutan.

She said, the world has turned into a global village. It is impossible to develop alone in this global village. For economic development intercontinental, inter country and regional connectivity and cooperation need to be developed.

Earlier she delivered her speech as the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony of 58^th convention of Engineers Institution Bangladesh at IEB center in Khalishpur.

Prime Minister’s Political Advisor HT Imam, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu and former president of IEB Professor Dr. Zamilur Reza Chowdhury were present on the occasion.

Terrorist attack on Alikadam checkpoint

Terrorists attacked a joint check post of police and army at the Dim Pahar area under Alikadam police station in Bandarban. The attack took place at around 1:00am Friday (5 April). There is panic among the locals. The people of Thanchi are spending sleepless nights in thought. Alikadam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tabidur Rahman said the media at night that the terrorists attacked at the Dim Pahar area by breaking through the joint checkpost by driving a vehicle. Earlier, an hour-long gunfight took place between police and BGB with Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) terrorists in Thanchi. 2 killed as train hits truck in Feni

Two people were died in a collision between running train and a truck in Purbo Fazilpur Muhuriganj Bridge in Feni. The accident took place on Friday (April 5) morning. Gateman Md Saiful went missing soon after the accident. Among the deceased, one was the driver and the other was helper of the truck. Police and witnesses said the accident happened around 8:30 at the rail gate adjacent to the East Fazilpur Muhuriganj Bridge in Feni Sadar Upazila. The Chattogram-bound mail train hit the truck while crossing the trail track as the gateman failed to place the bar despite the arrival of the train. Later, the railway authorities removed the truck and the bodies lying on the railway track.

Chuadanga records season’s highest temp at 40.2 degrees Celsius

Severe heat wave has started in Chuadanga. Normal life is being disrupted due to extreme heat. No one is going out of the house without much need in the ongoing heatwave. The highest temperature of the country this year recorded in Chuadanga district at 40.2 degrees Celsius at 3 pm on Saturday (April 6). Jaminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Weather Observatory said the heat wave started today at 3 pm. Temperatures are likely to rise further in the next few days.

Attacks in hilly areas won't affect tourism in Bandarban: DIG Tourist

Tourist Police Chief Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md Abu Kalam Siddique has said that incident in Bandarban will not have any impact on the tourist sector of Bangladesh. He said the reporters after the inauguration of a zonal office in Jamgara area of Ashulia in Savar on Saturday (April 6). Tourist Police chief said, "Our joint forces are operating in the hill areas. Security measures have also been strengthened. These isolated incidents will not have any impact on the tourist sector of Bangladesh. We have taken adequate security measures on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh celebration."

Over 6 lakh Muslims offer Eid prayers at Gor-E-Shaheed Maidan

Millions of devotees from different parts of the country performed the holy Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the historic Gor-E-Shaheed Eidgah Maidan in Dinajpur with enthusiasm. An atmosphere of amity is created here around the Eid Jamaat. The Eid congregation was held on Thursday (April 11th) at 9 am with the participation of millions of devotees. Mawlana Shamsul Alam Kashemi led the congregation. After the prayers, a munajat was offered seeking peace of the country, the nation and the Muslim Ummah. Fire at Hazaribagh slum under control

A massive fire broke out in Dhaka's Hazaribagh area. The fire was brought under control around one hour after the fire broke out. The fire broke out at around 11:50am today (April 12). On information, the fire service rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. Rozina Akhtar, duty officer of the fire service, confirmed the matter. Initially, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Seven units were sent to the spot after receiving the news. The fire was brought under control by 12:40 pm. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, she added.

Sadarghat launch capsize, accused on 3 day remand

A Dhaka court has placed five people on a three-day remand each in a case filed over the death of five passengers in a launch capsize at Sadarghat. Naqib, a sub-inspector of Sadarghat thana River Police, pleaded to place the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand each for "fair investigation" on Friday (April 12). The accused are Md Abdur Rauf Hawlader, and Md Selim Hawlader, Md Faruk Khan, Md Mizanur Rahman, and Md Moniruzzaman. On behalf of the accused, lawyers appealed for bail seeking cancellation of the remand. But the bail application was opposed by the state. Dhaka's Chief Judicial Magistrate, Arifa Chowdhury Himel, placed each of the accused on a three-day remand. Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul confirmed the information. Meanwhile, joint director of River Securty and Traffic Management, Ismail Hossain, filed the case at South Keraniganj Police Station.
