5 get death sentence for murder after gang-rape

A court in Chapainababganj has handed death sentence for five persons in connection with killing after gang-raping a young girl named Ayesha Khatun. In association with this all the convicts are also fined one lakh taka each.

Judge of District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 and Additional District and Session Judge Md. Shawkat Ali delivered the order on Thursday.

The death sentence awarded convicts are- Nayan Rabidas (28) son of Shyamapada Rabidas from Malbagdanga village under Chapainababganj sadar upazila, Prashanta Rabidas (22) son of Biren Rabidas from Sonapatti village, Nitaichandra Rabidas (26) son of Ratan Rabidas from Chakpara village, Subhash Das (42) son of Suchen Das and Prashanta Rabidas (24) son of Khokan Rabidas.

Nayan Kumar Rabidas and Prashanta Rabidas (22) were present before the court while delivering the verdict. The rest are absconding.

The court acquitted three as the allegations against them were not proved.

Quoting the case information Additional PP Anjuman Ara Begum said, on June 14, 2015 police recovered dead body of Ayesha Khatun (20) daughter of Mafizul Islam of Kalinagar Bablabona village under sadar upazila from a pond of Maharajpur melar mor area under sadar upazila. At first her reason of death was not known but the postmortem report mentioned that the young girl was killed after rape. Then on August 15 in the same year Sub Inspector of the sadar police station Shamim Akter filed a case accusing unknown persons. Later the Investigation Officer of the case Inspector of sadar police station Sarwar Rahman submitted the charge sheet on December 14 accusing eight persons.

It was mentioned in the charge sheet that on June 13 accused Nayan following his affair with Ayesha Khatun called her and strangled Ayesha to death with his associates after gang-rape.
