Will quit ministry if corruption found: Mozammel

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said, I am in charge of the ministry for the last four years. In this period if anybody can show or name 10 persons over allegation of corruption then I will pay excuse to the nation and step down from my charge.

He said these at a press conference organized by ‘Ekattorer Muktijoddha’ at the conference lounge of National Press Club on Friday.

The organizers alleged that numerous Rajakars were turned into freedom fighters in exchange of taka 2 to 10 lakh each. The Minister brushed aside the allegations and said, I don’t know what happened when my predecessors were in the seat. But no such incident happened after I took charge of the ministry. After getting the allegation I had scrutinized those and cancelled. Nobody can say that me or anybody of my ministry is associated with such activities.

Convener of ‘Ekattorer Muktijoddha’ Abir Ahad alleged that, in a guideline of Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JAMUKA) in 2017 it said that anybody can be provided freedom fighter certificate based on the testimony of Indian and Lal Muktibarta freedom fighters. To attach such kind of self destructing formula in the guidelines most the president and members of the scrutinizing committee and opportunists took the chance. They made the whole process as a commercial tool. For that injudicious and weak formula thousands of non-freedom fighters including Rajakars were made freedom fighters in exchange of money.

In the written speech Convener of the organization also said, the number of active freedom fighters will not be more than 1 lakh 50 thousand. But at present the number stands more than 2 lakh 15 thousand in the list.

The organization ‘Ekattorer Muktijoddha’ was established with the demands of awarding constitutional recognition of the dignity of freedom fighters and to exclude fake freedom fighters from the list. On Friday at the press conference the 71 member central committee of the organization was declared.
