Terming the December 30 election farcical, Jatiya Oikyafront convener Dr Kamal Hossain has demanded to hold fresh polls under a non-partisan interim government.

Leaders of the opposition alliance led by BNP came up with the demand while briefing media over the 11th parliamentary election at its Puranapaltan headquarters in Dhaka around 8pm on Sunday.

They demanded the election commission to hold the new election under a non-partisan interim government as early as possible.

Dr Kamal said that over 100 candidates of the alliance boycotted the polls across the country due to polls rigging.

When asked if their candidates win the polls, they will accept the results or not, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said they have rejected the election.

The election proves that it is not possible to hold a fair election under a partisan government, he said, adding that the election will only be held fairly under a non-partisan polls-time government.
