Metro rail services halted

Metro rail services have been suspended due to the failure of the signalling system. Several trains are also stuck at nearby stations.
The matter was reported from several responsible sources of MRT Line-6 on Saturday evening (May 25).
According to some sources, the metro rail movement was halted at around 7 pm on this day. As a result, passengers were waiting at different stations.
However, at around 7:30 pm, the metro rail authorities made announcements at different stations and requested the passengers who were in a hurry to go to alternative routes. It was also announced to refund the ticket money to the passengers.
Responsible sources said that the train movement has been stopped due to the failure of the metro rail signaling system. The telecom system has also been in trouble with the signaling system. Although trains can be brought without a signaling system, it will be a very risky task. At present, 10 trains are stuck on the line.
Sources also said engineers are on the line at the moment. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Mohammad Abdur Rouf, company secretary of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said, "The line of the transformer from which electricity goes to our operation control center was off. No signal could be sent to our stations. Now efforts are being made to reinstall it for passenger safety. ’

AL candidate elected uncontested in Jhenaidah-1 constituency
Awami League candidate, Nayeb Ali Joarder has been elected uncontested in the Jhenaidah-1 constituency by-election.
Assistant Returning Officer Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the matter on Saturday (May 18). Nayeb Ali Joarder is the only valid candidate as the rival candidates has withdrawn their candidature.
Independent candidate Nazrul Islam and Abdul Alim Nizami of Khelafat Andolon has withdrawn their candidacy.
Assistant Returning Officer and District Election Officer, Mokhlesur Rahman said the last date for withdrawal of candidacy for the by-election is Saturday. Of the three candidates, Abdul Alim of Khelafat Andolon and independent candidate Nazrul Islam withdrew their candidacy on the last day. For this reason, the only valid candidate Awami League nominated Nayeb Ali Joarder with boat symbol is going to be elected unopposed.
3 KNF members killed in shootout with army
Three members of the Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) were killed in a reported gunfight with the army in Ruma upazila of Bandarban. Arms and radio equipments were recovered.
The gunfight took place in Ruma upazila on Sunday noon (April 19).
According to local sources, the joint force led by the army conducted the operation after receiving information that KNF had set up a hideout in the deep forest of Debachhora. There were heavy clashes between the two sides. After an hour-long exchange of fire, the bodies of two KNF members and a bullet-ridden man were recovered. He also later died. The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.
Additional Superintendent of Police Raihan Kazemi said three people were killed in a joint operation led by the army at a KNF hideout in Debachhora area near Ronin Para of Ruma upazila. After the incident, the police went there to recover the body.
It is to be noted that the joint forces are conducting a combing operation across Bandarban on charges of involvement of 'Kuki Chin National Front (KNF), who are accused of bank robbery, attack on mosques, looting money and arms in Ruma and Thanchi on April 2 and 3.
