Pilot killed as Air Force training jet crash in Chattogram

A pilot named Asim Jawad was killed in the crash of a training fighter plane of the Air Force due to a mechanical fault in Patenga, Chattogram. He was admitted in a critical condition at Banouja Isa Khan Hospital (Navy Hospital) in Patenga. Another injured co-pilot Wing Commander Sohan is still under treatment.

Asim Jawad died on Thursday (May 9) around 12:30 pm while he was under treatment at the Navy Hospital. Deputy Commissioner of City Police (Port) Shakila Sultana confirmed the matter.

He said that the pilot and co-pilot of the crashed training plane came down by parachute and were rescued and admitted to Banouja Isa Khan Hospital. A pilot named Asim Jawad died while undergoing treatment at around 12:30 pm. Others are in fairly good condition.

Earlier, the Air Force's YAK-130 fighter jet developed a mechanical fault shortly after take-off around 10:30 am. At that time, the aircraft caught fire and it crashed into the Karnaphuli river near the Chattogram Boat Club.
