Govt to buy 150 rail carriages 20 engines

To step up the railway sector of the country one stage ahead the government is going to buy 150 rail carriages and 20 engines. These will be bought from South Korea with a cost of 18 hundred crore taka.

A project was approved in this connection at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting at the NEC conference room at Sher e Bangla Nagar in the capital on Tuesday.

ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

In the meeting total 16 projects were approved worth 16 thousand 10 crore 24 lakh taka. Of these, 3 thousand 839 crore taka will come from project assistance and the rest will be met from government fund.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal briefed the newsmen after the meeting.

He said, 16 projects were approved in today’s meeting. The total cost will be 16 thousand 10 crore 24 lakh taka. Of these the expense from government financing will be 11 thousand 870 crore 48 lakh taka and taka 300 crore 34 lakh will be met from concerned organization’s own fund. Besides, 3 thousand 839 crore 42 lakh taka will come from project assistance.
