Arrest cannot be prevented after complain to EC: Hasan Sarkar

The 20-party alliance nominated mayor candidate in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election Hasan Uddin Sarkar said, the arresting of our party leaders and activists is hindering the fair electoral environment. It cannot be prevented after complaining to Election Commission (EC) again and again.

He said this to the newsmen after holding discussion with a three member representative team of election observation organization Democracy International at his residence at Tongi College Gate on Thursday.

Hasan Sarkar said that he had a pre-fixed program of election campaign at Konabari area on Thursday. In the earlier night Detective Branch police detained eight leaders including his center committee president and police raided houses of several leaders. Strict decision will be taken if the situation prevails, he added.

He said, discussion took place with Chief Election Commissioner on Wednesday. He assured of fair election but the situation is reverse.

He said, due to mass arrest by the local administration the leaders and activists are on the run and therefore it will hamper the campaign but it is going on the right way.

Later Hasan Uddin Sarkar along with his party leaders met the Returning Officer and filed complains. He also demanded release of the arrested.

On the other hand Awami League nominated mayoral aspirant Jahangir Alam took part in street meeting and mass contact at Shimultali and Chatarbazar area in Gazipur city.

He urged for not harassing the innocent people. He also demanded arrest of terrorists and accused in cases.
