9 coaches of Bijoy Express derail in Cumilla, several hurt

Nine coaches of Jamalpur-Chattogram Bijoy Express derailed at Nangalkot in Comilla. The incident took place at around 1:30 pm on Sunday (March 17).

Comilla Railway senior deputy assistant engineer (roads) Liaquat Ali Majumder confirmed the matter on Sunday (March 17) and said that the ‎Mymensingh-bound Bijoy Express left Chattogram much after the scheduled time. Nine coaches of the train derailed while crossing Gunabati railway station in Chauddagram. We initially came to know that this happened due to sudden heat. At least 50 passengers were injured in the incident and at least three to four people were seriously injured. Train service from Chattogram to Dhaka, Sylhet, Jamalpur suspended.

Nangalkot Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Debasis Chowdhury said, "We initially came to know that it was a Bijoy Express train. The incident took place before Nangalkot, 5 km from Hasanpur. The engine is on the line. However, 6 to 7 coaches were derailed.

Train service from Chattogram to Dhaka, Sylhet, Jamalpur suspended
