Order to stop use of battery-run three wheelers, ban on purchase and sale

The High Court on Wednesday ordered to stop use of 40 lakh battery-run three wheelers across the country. Besides the court imposed ban on import, purchase and sale of this type of vehicles.

The High Court bench headed by Justice Mamnun Rahman passed the order.

Advocate Atiq Touhidul Islam stood for the writ petitioner before the court while Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta represented the state.

Atiq Touhidul Islam said, the High Court has ordered to seize illegal battery-run easybikes. The court also imposed ban on import of this type of vehicles. In this regard the High Court issued rule asking why not the inactivity of the authority should not be declared illegal for refraining import of this type of easybikes.

He said, these easybikes are used to charge by electricity illegally. The government does not get any type of money from the use of these easybikes. Moreover, these vehicles are harmful for environment and human body.

Earlier, on December 13 chairman of Bagh Eco Motors Limited Qazi Jasimul Islam filed the writ petition before the High Court. In the writ seven persons including Industry Secretary, Road Transport Secretary, Environment Secretary were made defendants.
