Information Minister infected with coronavirus
Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has been infected with coronavirus.
Public Relations Officer of the information ministry confirmed the information on Friday night.
He said, Information Minister has been infected with coronavirus. He was admitted at a private hospital in the capital. He is doing well at the moment and has no major physical complexity. He has sought doa from the countrymen for his recovery.

5 killed in launch accident at Sadarghat Launch Terminal
At least Five people were killed when the anchor rope of a passenger launch severed and hit them at Sadarghat terminal in the capital.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon (April 11) at around 3:15 pm. Joynul Abedin, director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) confirmed the matter.
The deceased include a woman, three men and a child.
According to sources, five passengers were seriously injured after the anchor of Tasrif 4 broke into pieces and hit some of the people around, injuring them. Five of them died.
Health services not disrupted: Health Minister
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen said that there was no disruption of health services in any hospital in the country even during the long vacation of Eid.
He said this while talking to reporters after visiting Mugda Medical College Hospital in the capital on Thursday (April 11).
The Health Minister said that though the Eid vacation is going on, there was no disruption of health services in any hospital in the country.
"This is my first Eid as a minister. I hope the people of the country are celebrating Eid very nicely. I went to two hospitals on Wednesday and found enough doctors and nurses in both places. I am satisfied. I also talked to patients. No one complained," he added.
"I have sent a message to the directors of all the hospitals in the country this morning. As far as I know, treatment is going on everywhere. There was no disruption anywhere. I found enough doctors and nurses in every hospital I have visited and I am satisfied with their services.", said Dr Samanta Lal Sen.
Train fares set to rise from May 4
Bangladesh Railway has withdrawn rebate on fares for passengers traveling more than 100 kilometers from May 4. As a result, all types of train fares are increasing.
According to Bangladesh Railway officials, it gives about 20-30 percent rebate for travelling over 100km.
Director General of Bangladesh Railway Sardar Sahadat Ali, confirmed the information to the media on Monday (April 22).
'The costs of train passengers travelling over 100 kilometres are likely to rise from May 4, as Bangladesh Railway will not provide the existing rebate facility from that day,' said Sahadat Ali.
Train fares will be adjusted by withdrawing the the rebate from May 4, he said. However, in response to a question about the rate at which the train fare is increasing, the DG said it will be fixed the commercial branch of the railway.
Qatar Emir arrives in Dhaka for a two-day visit
Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani has come to Dhaka on a two-day visit at the invitation of President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He arrived at Shahjalal International Airport at 5 pm on Monday (April 22).
Six deals between Qatar and Bangladesh and five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are to be signed. The agreements are- avoidance of double taxation, co-operation about law issues, co-operation about maritime transport, development and protection of investments, transfer of convicts, and formation of joint business councils.
The MoUs include- MoUs on manpower, port management, higher education and scientific research, co-operation of youth and sports and co-operation of diplomatic training.
'It is very important to visit the Qatae Emir for ensuring fuel security. There will be a multipurpose discussion about fuel between two countries. Apart from this, Qatar has a huge amount of sovereign wealth fund that can be a potential source of investment for Bangladesh. Alongside with, Qatar is one of the most important source of fuel for Bangladesh,' Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said at a press conference on Sunday (April 21).
GST Admission test starts today, special measures around heatwave
In this 2023-24 academic year, twenty-four universities, including GST institutions, are set to conduct the first-year admission test for the fourth time in a cluster system.
Admission test for 'A' unit will be held on Saturday (April 27) from 12 noon to 1 pm. On the same day Architecture Practical (Drawing) will be taken from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
Besides, the examination of 'B' unit under the Humanities group will be held on Friday, May 3 and the examination of 'C' unit under the Business Management will be held on Friday May 10. The admission test of these two units will be held from 11am to 12 pm.
On the occasion of the admission test, the overall preparation has already been completed. Meanwhile, special attention is being paid for the safety of the students during the ongoing heatwave.
The Vice Chancellor of Jashore University of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said that all the Universities have been requested to take proper precautions during the heatwave. At the same time he is calling upon the Vice-Chancellors of the concerned Universities under the cluster to provide sufficient fresh water and first aid in the examination centers for the protection of the admission candidates.
This year, 3 lakh 5 thousand and 346 applications have been submitted against a total of 21 thousand seats under cluster system. Accordingly, 15 aspirants will fight for each seat.
In this year, cluster admission test application was open from 12-27 February. During this period, 1 lakh 70 thousand 599 applications have been submitted in 'A' unit of science group, 94 thousand 631 in 'B' unit of humanities group and 40 thousand 116 applications in 'C' unit of business management.
Private sectors of Thailand to invest in Bangladesh: Foreign Minister

FM was pleased to mention the signing of the Letter of Intent (LoI) to commence the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries earlier on the day and emphasized the importance of early commencement of FTA for enhancing bilateral trade and balancing trade deficit between the two countries.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of fostering increased people-to-people contact as a means to strengthen the bonds between Bangladesh and Thailand.
He said that the Bangladesh Government might benefit from Technology Transfer from the Thai Government and invited Thai investment in the Tourism sector of Bangladesh. He further added that as a bridge between South Asia and South East Asia, Bangladesh could be considered for investment as a regional hub and for its reasonable size of market. He urged the private sectors of Bangladesh and Thailand to explore all opportunities while assuring the required facilitation from the Government. He highlighted agricultural business, digital economy, logistics and light manufacturing sectors which Thai investors may consider for investment.
The event was attended by prominent business personnel from the Thai business community.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Abdul Hye thanked all the dignitaries and guests for their presence at the event.
Two Bangladeshi shot dead in USA
Two Bangladeshis were shot dead in New York yesterday. Local media reported that the incident took place in the eastern part of Buffalo on Saturday (April 27) at noon.
The deceased are Babul Mia from Cumilla and Md. Yusuf from Kanaighat, Sylhet. Although the incident took place at 1.30 pm on Saturday, the police informed their family at 8 pm.
According to various sources, the two victims were shot inside when they going to see the construction work of their own house.They both move to Buffalo a few days ago.
Standing next to the two bereaved family, Bangladeshi community of USA said that they would undertake various programs to bring justice for the murder.
