New wage framework within 15 days for jute mill workers: Minister

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi said, pay slips will be given to the jute mill workers within 15 days according to the new wage framework.

He said this to the newsmen after holding meeting with jute mill workers on Thursday night. The meeting started in the evening at the Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) office at Farmgate in the capital.

The minister held the meeting with the leaders of state owned jute mill workers who were on strike to implement their 11-point demand including payment of due wages and implementation of wage commission.

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, State Minister for Labor Munnujan Sufian and two secretaries of the concerned ministry were also present in the meeting. Besides nearly 50 leaders and workers of jute mills and CBA and non-CBA association took part in the meeting.

To meet the 11-point demand state owned nine jute mill workers of Khulna region had been staging demonstration, procession, hunger strike programs from November 23.

Earlier on December 15 after holding meeting with State Minister for Labor and Employment Begum Munnujan Sufian the workers suspended their programs till December 22.

As the demands were not fulfilled the workers of 11 state owned jute mills of Khulna, Rajshahi and Narshingdi districts again began their hunger strike unto death program from December 29.
