Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzak said, prices of onion cannot be controlled due to lack of import than the demand and no planned preparation for stock.

He said this while answering questions to the newsmen at a workshop of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute in Gazipur on Thursday.

The minister said, farmers could not make their stock after collecting onion and that was not possible due to rain. On the other hand we could not realize that India would impose ban on onion export. There might be a mistake committed by us. We had to conduct a survey over the production and needed import.

Dr. Abdur Razzak said, now onion is coming from outside and the businessmen are publicizing that. May be it has a positive effect but it will not make any influence to the market. We have to remember that price of commodity depends on demand and supply in the market. It cannot be controlled by RAB, police or army.
