Nusrat murder: 16 get death sentence including ex-principal Siraj

The court has awarded death sentence for 16 accused including ex-principal Siraj-ud-Doula in connection with Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case.

Judge of Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Mamunur Rashid delivered the verdict on Thursday.

Earlier on September 30 the court fixed the date for delivering verdict after completion of the hearing of the arguments.

On April 10 the case was handed over to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). After completing investigation PBI submitted the charge sheet before the court accusing 16 people on June 29. The court then fixed the date for delivering verdict on October 24 after hearing deposition of 87 persons in 61 workdays.

On April 6 the miscreants called Nusrat on the roof top of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa and set her ablaze when she went there to appear in the Alim examination. On April 8 her brother Mahmudul Hasan Noman filed a case with Sonagazi model police station under woman and child repression prevention act.

On March 27 Nusrat’s mother filed a case under woman and child repression prevention act against madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Doula over allegation of sexually harassing her daughter. Nusrat gave her statement before the court of senior judicial magistrate ASM Emran on March 28. On that day Sonagazi police arrested the principal.

Lawyer of the plaintiff Advocate Shahjahan Saju said, before her death Nusrat in her statement told that she was burnt as she denied to withdraw the case filed against the madrasa principal. Nusrat succumbed to her injuries on April 10 at the Sheikh Hasina Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment.
