Kabita Khanam

Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam said that action will be taken if evidences are found against any Election Commission (EC) official for providing National Identity cards (smart cards) to Rohingyas.

She said these to the newsmen after holding meeting with the electoral officials of Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar districts on Monday.

Kabita Khanam said, Rohingyas were not included in the voter lists as they were registered through biometric method after taking finger impression. Rohingyas who came earlier in the country may be voters after using fake names and addresses.

Though there is allegation by the Anti Corruption Commission that some EC officials were involved in the process as some Rohingya’s names were found in EC server, she said that following EC’s own investigation it was found that nobody was involved.

But she said that thorough investigation is still going on and proper action will be taken against the persons involved.
