Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, there will be win and defeat in sports. There is nothing to be upset in this regard. It has to be kept in mind- we will win tomorrow if defeated today. Father of the nation made his mind according to that- he had the will power of not being defeated in every aspect. For that reason we achieved victory in the great liberation war.

She said these at the closing ceremony of ‘Bangabandhu Inter University Sports Championship 2019’ at Bangabandhu national stadium in the capital on Saturday.

Sheikh Hasina said, you know- my grandfather was a footballer. My father also played football. My two brothers Sheikh Kamal and Sheikh Jamal- they also liked sports. Kamal’s wife Sultana was ‘Dhaka University Blue’ as a player. Jamal’s wife was also in sports. Our full family was associated with sports.

She said, we paid attention in sports like other sectors after coming in power in 1996. But we could not complete many tasks in that tenure. After winning the election of 2008 and by forming the government we completed the tasks. Our efforts were to associate children and young generation with every sector like education, sports and culture.

The Prime Minister said, we have started competition in all types of sports. We have organized Bangamata Gold Cup Football Tournament for the primary level girls. There is Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament for the primary level boys. Besides there is Bangabandhu Inter University Sports Championship. I express my heartiest thanks to all who have taken part in the competition.
