Voter list updating from April 23

Voter list updating process was suspended for the eleventh national parliament election. The updating process will begin from April 23 for the twelfth national parliament election.

Under this process the information collectors appointed by the Election Commission (EC) will gather information of the citizens by going door to door. After conclusion of information gathering the reflection of eyes and finger impressions will be taken at the centers set up in ward level for smart voter ID cards. The EC will publish the final voter list on January 31, 2020.

EC Join Secretary SM Asaduzzaman said that the decisions were taken at the commission meeting on Monday. He said, plans have been taken to collect four years information in this time. But the commission could not settle the matter whether it would be three years or four years.

According to the plans, to collect information for four years it should be gathered for those who were born before January 1, 2004. To collect information for three years it should be gathered for those who were born before January 1, 2003. In this case the people who will be 18 years old on January 1, 2019 they will be enlisted in the voter list from next year. Then people who will turn 18 on January 1 of 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively they will be enlisted in the voter list automatically.
