High Court orders to remove electric poles from roads

The High Court has ordered the authorities concerned to remove different types of poles including electric poles within 60 days that are placed dangerously on roads and highways throughout the country. Along with the order the court also issued rule asking why not order will be given to remove the dangerous poles on the roads and highways after identifying those throughout the country.

Road transport Secretary, Secretary of power, energy and mineral resources ministry, power development board Chairman and concerned officials were asked to implement the order. In association with this they have to answer the rule.

After hearing of a writ petition the High Court bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik Al Jalil passed the order on Thursday.

Writ petitioner lawyer Barrister Sayedul Haque Suman took part in the hearing before the court on Thursday. Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman stood for the state.

Barrister Sayedul Haque Suman filed the writ petition to the concerned section of High Court on Wednesday seeking direction for removing the electric poles placed dangerously on roads and highways.

After the order lawyer Sayedul Haque Suman said, the High Court has ordered to remove all the dangerous poles including electric poles from roads and highways as early as possible. The order also mentioned the timeframe not more than 60 days.

Mentionable, Barrister Sayedul Haque Suman from his own page made a facebook live show when he was returning from Sylhet to Dhaka on February 9 after watching an electric pole located in the middle of the highway at Shibpur in Narshingdi. He then filed the writ petition on Wednesday with the High Court to readdress the matter.
