Looking for an island to construct nuclear power plant: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, we are building naval, air base and cantonment in Patuakhali region. Once upon a time this area was neglected, we are paying attention to this. We have taken master plan centering this region. We are looking for an island. Its feasibility test is going on. We will construct a nuclear power plant here.

The Prime Minister said these on Saturday at a documents and keys handover program for the housing project Swapner Thikana, a housing project for rehabilitation of the people who lost their land for acquisition in thermal power plant at Payra in Patuakhali.

Sheikh Hasina said, people of the country will not suffer anymore. Their living standard will be developed. We will build LNG terminal in this area, so that LNG can be used in other sector including industry. We will also take initiative to produce 30 thousand Mega Watt electricity in the Southern region.

She said, we have social accountability. We have paid our attention so that nobody turns homeless or affected due to development activities.

She said, we have built homes for 130 families in this region. We have paid compensation for them even built homes for them, so that they can live along with their family members.

The Prime Minister said, we have taken steps so that nobody suffers due to development activities. I went to the homes, those are beautiful. 130 semi-paka homes. We have also constructed and managed play ground, two ponds, school, shops, kitchen market and tube wells in 48 homes.

Sheikh Hasina said, I have ordered to construct a multipurpose cyclone center here. So people can live here well, where we have constructed homes in the name of Swapner Thikana.

After delivering her speech the Prime Minister inaugurated 16 development projects.
