Death sentence for keeping or taking Yaba more than 5 grams

The government has taken initiatives to award death sentence for production, transport, marketing and taking more than five grams of Yaba and more than 25 grams of Heroin and Cocaine. The draft of the law in this regard was approved in principle at the cabinet meeting on Monday.

The cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at Tejgaon in the capital. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam informed about the approval after the meeting at the secretariat.

About the new law the Cabinet Secretary said, according to the proposed law the capital punishment death sentence will be awarded for carrying, stocking, marketing and taking yaba for more than five grams. The death sentence will also be awarded for more than 25 grams of heroin, cocaine and homogeneous drugs.

According to the previous law the highest punishment was 15 years imprisonment for drugs related crimes.
