Condemning the Israeli atrocities committed against innocent women and children in Gaza, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon all parties to ensure humanitarian access and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during delivering a statement at the Opening Ceremony of the International Conference on Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment held on 6 November 2023 in Jeddah, KSA. Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to remain united for an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, the Prime Minister expressed her steadfast commitment to do her part on behalf of the Palestinian brothers and sisters.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the Conference as Guest of Honor as a global recognition of her exemplary role in women empowerment. She spoke about women empowerment locally and globally and expressed Bangladesh’s readiness to share her experience in enhancing the opportunities of Muslim women in particular.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom Saudi Arabia (Chair of the Islamic Summit), OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, the Vice-President of Benin, the United Nations Deputy-Secretary General Amina Mohammed, Foreign Minister of Indonesia, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad of Mauritania delivered speech in the Opening Ceremony of the Conference.

On the sideline of the Opening Ceremony of the Conference Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, Vice-President of the Iran for Women and Family Affairs Ensieh Khaz'ali, and Executive Director of OIC Women Development Organization (WDO) Dr. Afnan Alshuaibly called on the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, separately.

This three-day long Conference aims at shedding light on the successes of Muslim women and promote women empowerment in Muslim societies.

Court accepts charge sheet against Dr Yunus, 13 others

A Dhaka court accepted the charge-sheet filed in a case against against Dr Yunus, 13 others for allegedly embezzling Tk 25 crore from the company. Gulshan Anowar Pradhan, Deputy Director of Anti- Corruption Commission filed the case. On February 1, ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Prodhan, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against 14 people, including Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

DMP to provide special security in Dhaka ahead of Eid

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner, Md Habibur Rahman has said there is no threat to the upcoming Eid ul-Fitr. Besides, special security measures have been taken for 24 hours in Dhaka during the Eid holidays. He said this at a press conference after visiting the Eid market at Bashundhara Shopping Complex in the capital on Tuesday noon (April 2). DMP commissioner said, "There is no threat centering the Eid festival. As The capital becomes empty during the long Eid holidays. Security has been arranged keeping this in mind in the security plan." He said about 1.5 crore people will go out of Dhaka during the Eid holidays. At this time Dhaka city remains empty. Brazil to help Bangladesh for BRICS membership

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has assured of extending all-out support to Bangladesh for its keen interest in becoming a BRICS member. More than 2m SIM card holders left the capital in 2 days

More than 20 lakh mobile phone SIM holders have left the capital in the last two days. This information has been found in the sources of mobile phone operators.
