Commerce Minister Tofael Ahmed urged businessmen of essential products to do profit at a tolerable level during the month of Ramadan.

His request was made at a meeting with businessmen to find out the way for keeping price of essential products at a tolerable stage held at commerce ministry at the secretariat in the capital on Sunday.

The Commerce Minister said, do profit at a tolerable stage to keep the sanctity of the Ramadan month. You should supply products in proper way and thus make your profit. But do profit in a tolerable stage. This is my humble request to you.

He said, prices of other products excluding sugar and onion are normal. Onion is imported from India. Our local production is less than the demand. Sometimes onion gets rotten if time for import takes too much. For these reasons price of onion is on higher trend.

Tofael Ahmed said, stocks of all types of essential commodities are adequate. So there is no reason for price hike in the month of Ramadan. If any businessman increases price of commodity by making stock then legal action will be taken against him.

The Minister said, another reason of price hike is that many used to do their 15 days shopping before beginning of Ramadan. So there is an influence takes place in the market. So it should not be right to judge the price of first Ramadan with rest of the month.
