In the last 24 hours 37 people died after being infected with coronavirus in the country. With this the number of deaths has reached at 11,833. Besides, in this period 1,682 new coronavirus cases were traced in the country. With this the number of infected people has surged at 7,70,842. The information was delivered through the regular press release of health directorate on Friday. The release said, in the last 24 hours 17,329 samples were collected countrywide and of those 17,013 samples were tested. In this period 2,178 people recovered from coronavirus. With this the number of recovered people has reached at 7,04,341. On the other hand, of the 37 deceased 19 were from Dhaka division, 11 from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, one from Khulna, one from Barishal, two from Sylhet and one from Mymensingh. Of the deceased 23 were male and 14 were female. Of the total deceased (11,833) there were 8,589 male and 3,244 female. According to the age based analysis, of the deceased in past 24 hours 20 people were aged over 60s. Moreover, 11 were between 51 years to 60, five were between 41 to 50 ywars and one was aged varying from 31 to 40 years. Mentionable, three people were traced as coronavirus case in the country for the first time on March 8, last year. After 10 days the first news of death came on March 18, 2020. AH      

In the past 24 hours 65 people died due to coronavirus infection in the country. With this the number of deaths has increased to 11,644. In this period 1,739 people were infected with the virus afresh. With this the number of infected people has increased to 7,61,940. The information was delivered in a press release of the health directorate signed by its additional director general (admin) Nasima Sultana on Monday. Yesterday 69 people died due to coronavirus infection in the country and 1,359 were infected in the country. The notice said, in the last 24 hours 3,834 people recovered from the deadly virus. With this the number of recovery has stood at 6,91,162. In this period total 19,452 samples were collected and of them 19,431 were tested in the authorized laboratories. The first coronavirus case was traced in the country on March 8 last year and the first death occurred due to the infection on March 18. AH

Police yet to identify the chemical godown owners in connection with the devastating fire that broke out from a perfume factory and chemical godown and claimed 71 lives at Churihatta area in capital’s old Dhaka. Though two years have passed but police yet to trace any of the godown owners, and in this regard they said that the Wahed Mansion was rented by some people who provided wrong names and addresses. The investigation is yet to finish as right names and addresses were not found. Even the chargesheet was not submitted. Family members of the victims are worried that they may not get the justice for the responsible people. Officer in Charge of Chawkbazar police station Moudud Hawlader said, investigation is going on. The owner of the building was arrested but the owner of the godown could not be traced. They rented the godown providing wrong information. Still appropriate information could not be found. Mentionable, 71 people were killed as a fire broke out at a perfume factory and adjacent chemical godown at Churihatta area in old Dhaka on February 20, 2019. Before that incident 123 people were killed in another fire that broke out at Nimtoli area in old Dhaka on June 3, 2010. AH  

Dope tests are being conducted for the members of Bangladesh police force to make it free of drugs and bring transparency. Drug addiction has been traced among 68 police members under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Ten of them have been dismissed by this time. Walid Hossain, DC of DMP media center confirmed the information on Sunday. Police said, after taking charge in September last year the incumbent DMP Commissioner announced to perform dope test for the police members. In this connection 68 found guilty of taking drugs. Of them 7 SIs, one sergeant, 5 ASIs, 5 nayeks and 50 constables. Of the 68 people divisional cases were filed against 43, divisional actions are on process for 25 and 18 were temporarily suspended. After completion of the cases 10 from the said 18 were dismissed. Not only taking drugs even complains of selling drugs, trapping people with drugs and not doing deposition of recovered drugs have been found against these police members. It is known that 10 were accused in drugs selling, 10 were accused for trapping people. Of them divisional actions were taken against 5. Besides, for the allegation of not showing accurate recovered drugs by taking money 4 were accused. DC Walid Hossain said, it is a continuous process of cleansing drive. Police are firm in zero tolerance policy against drugs. There is no scope to spare anybody. Order has come from the high ups that there is no scope to continue job in police being drug addict or any type of involvement in drugs. AH           

The investigation team has seized the passport of Regent Hospital chairman Shahed Karim alias Md. Shahed. Another 23 cases were traced that were filed against him. With this the number of total cases stands at 56. After the operation of RAB at the Regent Hospital, the investigation team again conducted a drive in the hospital and Regent office based on the information provided by the accused who were put on remand. During the drive passports and other valuable evidences were recovered. RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam was present in the investigation team. He opened the sealed office. Sarwar Alam said, there were 32 cases against Shahed and after the drive another case was filed. Then complains arose from different sectors. The victims communicated with RAB and police stations. Lastly we could trace another 23 case. In total 56 cases were found filed against him and most of the cases were filed with complains of cheating and forgery. Information and Communication Technology Advisor to the Prime Minister Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, from now we will be able to trace hacking if it takes place anywhere in Bangladesh. He said this while inaugurating the startup accelerator and two labs at the ICT Tower at Agargaon in the capital on Thursday. Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, through inaugurating these labs and startup accelerator Bangladesh steps forward in the digital technology. We are able to monitor critical infrastructure of the government. Expressing lamentation he said, the incident of hacking in Bangladesh Bank can be prevented if the system is installed few years back. Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, State Minister of ICT Division, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, secretary of ICT Division Juena Aziz, Executive director of Bangladesh Computer Council, Parthapratim Deb were also present during the occasion. In a press release of the Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology ministry said, the startup Bangladesh accelerator and labs were established by Bangladesh Computer Samity under ICT division. It also said, it is the country’s first international quality software quality testing and certification center and also government’s first accelerator and computer incident response team lab which will create one thousand inventory commodities or services by the year 2021. Through establishing quality testing and certification center opportunities are created for testing quality of software, mobile apps, computer hardware. AH    

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-14 has traced a modern fire arms making factory at a house beside Nasirabad college ground in Mymensingh. A youth named Sohel was also detained at that time. RAB conducted the drive at 1:30 am on Wednesday in the arms factory and recovered four fire arms, seven rounds of bullets, commando knife, sharp weapons and arms making tools. Commander of RAB-14 Lieutenant Colonel Shariful Islam said, RAB conducted the operation at the house of Moin Uddin beside Nasirabad college ground in Mymensing town. RAB cordoned the house at that time. Sensing RAB’s presence the terrorists tried to escape from the house. A youth named Sohel was detained at that time. AH
