Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani has come to Dhaka on a two-day visit at the invitation of  President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He arrived at Shahjalal International Airport at 5 pm on Monday (April 22). Six deals between Qatar and Bangladesh and five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are to be signed. The agreements are- avoidance of double taxation, co-operation about law issues,  co-operation about maritime transport, development and protection of investments, transfer of convicts, and formation of joint business councils. The MoUs include- MoUs on manpower, port management, higher education and scientific research, co-operation of youth and sports  and co-operation of diplomatic training. 'It is very important to visit the Qatae Emir for ensuring fuel security. There will be a multipurpose discussion about fuel between two countries. Apart from this, Qatar has a huge amount of sovereign wealth fund that can be a potential source of investment for Bangladesh. Alongside with, Qatar is one of the most important source of fuel for Bangladesh,' Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said at a press conference on Sunday (April 21).

Painting competition was organized by the Russian House in Dhaka on the occasion of International Day of Human Space Flight. On the occasion of International Day of Human Space Flight, a painting competition titled "Yuri Gagarin: The First Man in Space" was held in Dhaka under the initiative of the Russian House in Dhaka in cooperation on thursday (April 4) with the Bangladesh Astronomical Association (BAA). Mr. Pavel Dvoychenkov opened the drawing competition and in his speech, talked about Yuri Gagarin's childhood, professional life and his historic space flight, as well as the history of the Russian space program and scientific activities and their impact on global progress in this field. Students of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, the government laboratory high school, Scholastica school and other different educational institutions in Dhaka participated in the painting competition. The program was also attended by the Executive Members from Bangladesh Astronomical Association, the Bangladesh National Science and Technology Museum, Dhaka and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre, as well as teachers of various educational institutions. After the competition, the Director of Russian House in Dhaka distributed commemorative souvenirs and certificates to the winners.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner, Md Habibur Rahman has said there is no threat to the upcoming Eid ul-Fitr. Besides, special security measures have been taken for 24 hours in Dhaka during the Eid holidays. He said this at a press conference after visiting the Eid market at Bashundhara Shopping Complex in the capital on Tuesday noon (April 2). DMP commissioner said, "There is no threat centering the Eid festival. As The capital becomes empty during the long Eid holidays. Security has been arranged keeping this in mind in the security plan." He said about 1.5 crore people will go out of Dhaka during the Eid holidays. At this time Dhaka city remains empty. So we would advise the city dwellers to be aware of their valuables and be aware. Special security measures have been taken by the police for 24 hours ahead of Eid.  

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country. This information was given by the BMD bulletin for the next 72 hours from 9 am on Friday (29th March). According to the forecast, an extended part of the western low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas. And the Seasonal low lies over the South Bay. Day and night temperature may rise slightly over Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. There is a possibility of rain in one or two places of Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions on Sunday (March 31). Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.  

High Commission of India hosted an Iftar in Dhaka on 19 March 2024. The event was attended by over 400 distinguished guests from all walks of life including the government, legislature, judiciary, political parties, armed forces, civil society, academia, business, media and culture. In his welcome remarks, High Commissioner Pranay Verma highlighted the significance of Iftar in promoting the spirit of brotherhood and humanity. He underlined the deep bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh and reaffirmed commitment to further enrich the special and multifaceted ties, which are rooted in the shared sacrifices of 1971. High Commissioner noted that the Iftar gathering  also symbolized the deep bonds of people-to-people ties that form the very foundation of India-Bangladesh relations. Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Minister of Religious Affairs of Bangladesh Md. Faridul Haque Khan was the guest of honour.

JCI Dhaka Premier proudly hosted its first General Member's Meeting of 2024, marking the beginning of a dynamic year filled with impactful initiatives and community engagement.  The meeting, held on Saturday (March 2), brought together members from across the region to discuss upcoming projects and opportunities for collaboration. The event was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Imran Kadir, the National President of JCI Bangladesh, and Ashabus Safa, the Local President of JCI Dhaka Premier. Their participation underscored the importance of community involvement and the commitment to fostering positive change. Additionally, the board of Dhaka Premier were present including Executive Vice President Gazi Nayeem Manzoor,  Vice Presidents Md. Asifur Rahman and Syed Ziaul Ahsan. Secretary General Gazi Shahriar Islam Mridul and Treasurer Md. Shahinur Rashid were also present. To add more light to the board, Local Directors including Syed Moinul Ahsan, Mosharraf Hossain Saikat were present.  Last but not the least, Local Committee Chairs namely Ariana Afrin, Ayman Nasim and Md.Shoeb shared the floor and represented the Dhaka Premier Board of Directors 2024. During the meeting, general members also had the opportunity to share their ideas and insights on various community projects and initiatives. About 80% of the General Members were present during the meeting. Discussions ranged from youth empowerment programs to environmental sustainability efforts, highlighting the diverse interests and passions of the JCI Dhaka Premier community. Gas supply will remain suspended for three hours in some areas of the capital on Tuesday. Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited said this in a press release on Monday (Feb 26). The supply will remain suspended in some areas of Dhaka from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Tuesday (Feb 27) for emergency replacement of gas pipeline. Gas supply will remain suspended for three hours in Maghbazar, Noyatola, Madhubagh, Tejgaon, Hatirjheel, Mirerbag, Gabtala, Greenway, Peyarabagh and Eskaton (Dilu Road and surrounding areas).  

The admission test of 'Kha' unit (Arts, Law and Social Science Faculty) for the academic year 2023-24 of Dhaka University is going to start from today. The admission test will be held simultaneously in eight divisions of the country including Dhaka on Friday (February 23) at 11 am. According to the notification published on the university's website, the admission test will begin on February 23. The admission test will end on March 9.  

Dhaka again topped the list of cities worldwide with the worst air quality with an AQI of 239 at 8:24 am on Friday (Feb 16). According to the air quality index, Dhaka air was classified as “very unhealthy” with an AQI between 201 and 300. An AQI between 151 and 200 is considered “unhealthy” On the other hand 201-300 is considered “very unhealthy” and 301+ is considered “hazardous,” posing severe health damage to residents. Accordingly, Pakistan's Lahore occupied the second, India’s Delhi occupied the third, in contrast Kolkata and Iraq’s Baghdad stood third and fourth and fifth spots on the list, with AQI scores of 223, 219, 199 and 187 respectively. World Health Organization (WHO) says, air pollution kills an estimated around seven million people worldwide every year, mainly due to increased mortality from stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and acute respiratory infections. The organization is working with countries to monitor air pollution and improve air quality. 

Sacheton Nagarik Samaj held a human chain and protest demonstration on Monday at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Dhaka to show solidarity with the Uyghur Muslims and remember those who lost their lives on this day in 1997. 250-300 Protestors carrying banners,  posters and placards highlighting Chinese atrocities on the Uyghur Muslims attended the demonstration. Protestors educated the people about the grim torture minorities,  particularly Uyghur Muslims, are subjected to in China.   Muktijodha Mancha (MM) held a human chain and protest meeting today (3 to 0430 pm) in front of National Museum, Shahbag, Dhaka, to commemorate 27th anniversary of Ghulja Massacre Day. MM Chairman, Aminul Islam Bulbul, condemned China for continuously torturing its own Uyghur population in Xinjiang province, just for being Muslims.  China did not stop after killing hundreds of innocent protesters in Ghulja city of Xinjiang province this day in 1997, but incarcerated 10 Lakh Muslims, and, also tortured their numerous women and children. MM General Secretary Al Mamun accused China of trying to lure Bangladesh into debt trap, with the help of anti-Liberation War forces.  MM Coordinator Md Nur Alam highlighted that the Chinese companies in Bangladesh are also torturing the Bangladeshi workers. MM Law Advisor and Supreme Court Lawyer, AUZ Prince, asked Bangladeshi Muslims to take note of the Chinese behaviour towards their own Muslim population.
