National Daughters Day is being celebrated in Bangladesh on September 30.  President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today their love and sincere affection to all children, specially the girls, on the occasion today. BSS Reports The National Daughters Day is observed every year in the country on September 30 to show the importance of daughters. This year's theme of the day is 'Investment Priority, Daughter's Rights' (Biniyogey Ogradhikar, Konya Shishur Odhikar). In separate messages on the eve of the day, they wished the overall successes of all programmes taken marking the day. In his message, President Mohammed Shahabuddin said due to various government and private measures, the rate of child marriage and taking-dowry has decreased along with the increase in the female education rate in the country. The head of the state added that the girls' participation in sports and cultural activities is an enviable success now-a-days. Besides, they are taking the country forward by performing their duties competently in various fields and, as a result, Bangladesh is now a role model for the world in terms of gender equality. The President believed that investing on girl-child will be the right investment in the coming days as today's girl child will be able to build an educated family alongside developing her child worthy enough for leading the future world. "In developing the successful leadership of the smart Bangladesh of the future, we will be more diligent in protecting the rights of girls," Shahabuddin hoped. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the Awami League (AL)-led government has been maintaining the continuity of development with great success for the last 14 and a half years. Along with the development of the country's education, health and infrastructure, the government is working relentlessly for the development of women and girls, the premier added. In the national budget of the fiscal year 2023-24, the amount of gender-related allocation is Taka 2 lakh 61 thousand 787 crores, which is 34.37 percent of the total budget and 5.23 percent of the GDP, she continued. She said the national budget has formulated separate gender budgets for 27 ministries and 17 departments, which will be used to protect the overall rights of women and girls. The premier believed that investment needs to be increased for the flourishing of the girl child at every stage of development. Then they will become competent and efficient citizens and will be able to make a more important contribution in building a prosperous 'Smart' Bangladesh' in the future, she hoped.

Agamee Prakashani has recently published a novel 'Hey Sontopto Somoy' by renowned novelist Anwara Syed Haq on the occasion of the 41st homecoming day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The novel is based on the struggling lives of the two daughters--Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana-- of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in different countries of Europe and India during the hostile period of 1975-81, a press release said today. On May 17 in 1981, AL President Sheikh Hasina returned home after six years of exile defying different obstacles of the then government. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was brutally killed along with most of his family members on August 15 in 1975 and his two daughters- Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana -- luckily escaped the brutal assassination as they stayed abroad. After the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members, Sheikh Hasina devoted herself to the struggle for restoration of democracy and rule of law in the country. Sheikh Rehana, the youngest daughter of Bangabandhu, was also closely associated with her in this struggle. Osman Gani, owner of the Agamee Prakashani, said that the novel is dedicated to the memories of the late Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, who provided compassionate shelter and security to Bangabandhu's two daughters during the most difficult times. The High Court on Monday said it will intervene if any negligence is found in investigation into the torture of five people including a woman and her daughters in Chakaria of Cox's Bazar. Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque’s bench made the comment after newspaper reports regarding the matter were presented before the court by Supreme Court lawyer Jesmin Sultana. According to reports, five people including a woman and her two daughters were tortured and paraded through Paharchanda village in Harbang union of Chakaria after their hands and waists were tied with ropes on charge of cattle theft on Friday. Local Union Parishad Chairman Miranul Islam also allegedly assaulted them. The victims were handed over to police when their physical condition deteriorated. Police took them to Chakaria Hospital for treatment. Mahbubul Haque, a resident of Bandabonkhil village, filed a case against the five on Friday night. The accused are- Parvin Akhter, 55, her daughters Selina Akhter Seli, 25, Rozina Akhter, 20, son Emran, 23, and Mohammad Chottu, son of Delwar Hossain of Barbakia in Pekua upazila. The woman and her children were sent to Cox's Bazar jail on Saturday afternoon. Parvin and her daughters were granted bail on Monday afternoon by a court. Source: UNB AH

A young mother and her two daughters were found dead at their government staff-quarters residence in the city’s Darus Salam area on Monday evening. The deceased were identified as Jasmine Akhter, 35, wife of Md Hasibul Islam, and their daughters Asifa, 9, and Abila, 5. Hasibul is an assistant legislative draft-man while Jasmine used to work at Khamar Bari. Reports UNB. Assistant Commissioner (Darus Salam) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Jahangir Alam said Hasibul claimed that he along with one of his relatives found their 3rd floor apartment at Tularbagh near Govt Bangla College locked from inside in the evening. They broke open the door only to find the trio lying in a pool of blood, he said quoting Hasibul. There were marks of sharp weapons in the necks of the two children and in the neck and abdomen of Jasmine, Jahangir said, adding that Jasmine might have committed suicide after killing the two daughters. He, however, said the mystery will get unveiled only after investigation. AH
