Govt to appoint 2000 more physicians: Health Minister
Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said if the number of Covid-19 patients continues to soar, the government will take steps to appoint additional 2000 physicians to contain the situation. “The government will take steps seeing the situation. It will appoint additional 2000 physicians if the coronavirus situation remains changed. Besides, the process to appoint medical technologists is going on,” he said at a press briefing at the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when he went there to see off the Chinese expert team. Talking about the increasing number of coronaviurs cases, the Minister said “If people do not become aware of the highly contagious virus, then all the hospitals of the country will be full of Covid-19 patients. People should be more aware of the virus.” He also emphasised more budget allocation in the health sector to fight coronavirus. Besides, the Minister also said that China is working to develop coronavirus vaccine and the Chinese government has said Bangladesh will get priority in terms of cooperation and support if they can successfully develop vaccine for the coronavirus. Talking about the visit of the Chinese delegation, the Minister said, “The Chinese delegation expressed their satisfaction over the work of Bangladesh in tackling coronavirus crisis. They also suggested the government that there are some areas where improvement is possible. We’ll work on those identified areas in future.” Referring to the testing kits, Zahid Maleque said the government has taken steps to meet the demand and so there is no reason to worry about kits. The 10-member team of Chinese experts, who has the firsthand experience of containing the virus and treating patients with remarkable success, came to Bangladesh with a bunch of medical equipment. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming, who was present at the press briefing, also assured of providing vaccine to Bangladesh on priority basis whet developed. Besides, Prof Abul Kalam Azad, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also spoke at the press briefing. EC to appoint 2 thousand staffs before election
Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder has informed that the Election Commission (EC) will appoint two thousand staffs before the eleventh national parliament election. He said this to the newsmen at his office at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Thursday. Mahbub Talukder said, of the two thousand staffs 517 people will be appointed as Assistant Upazila Election Officers under the commission. He said, the capability of the commission will be increased if the new election officers are appointed. But that is less than the requirement. The Election Commissioner said, proposals were given to promote 75 officers in the promotion, administrative reforms and readjustment and skill development committee meeting. Promotions are being given in public administration and police keeping ahead the election. The wave also affected the EC. He also said that they will get the promotions if the commission approved. Mahbub Talukder said, EC officers will be inspired and illuminated by the promotions. But decision was not taken over how many Returning Officers will be appointed from the own officers of EC in the next election. He said, the number of manpower in EC is three thousand which is less than the need. According to the EC sources, no recommendation was made to promote anybody as Joint Secretary. 9 Regional Election Officers were recommended for fourth grade. Besides, 29 were recommended for promoting as Deputy Secretary or same posts (fifth grade) and 37 were recommended for Senior Assistant Secretary or same posts. AH
